    Based in Ottawa, Harris Computer, a division of Constellation Software – one of Canada’s largest software companies, is a leading North American provider of mission-critical software solutions across the Public Sector, Utilities, and Healthcare industries. Our Public Sector Group (PSG) is seeking a Business Development Specialist, M&A to work closely with PSG’s Senior Management team in continuing the company’s success in mergers and acquisition (M&A) activity.


    Reporting to the M&A team lead, the position will play a key role in identifying and sourcing new acquisition opportunities. The ideal candidate is a true people-person, someone who is inherently curious, and has a passion for creating and maintaining relationships. Prior business development experience is critical. While no formal financial training is required, basic financial literacy and/or a knowledge of software is an asset.


    The mandate of the role will be to help grow the PSG M&A group’s acquisition volume through targeted outbound communication.

    Primary Functions

    • Directly solicit and engage companies for acquisition; identify, cold call, and qualify target companies to ensure they meet our investment profile; 
    • Build and manage relationships with acquisition targets, while ensuring that the investment process is handled with care and professionalism;
    • Work with Senior Management to conduct market and industry research to identify vertical market software (VMS) companies that fit our investment profile.
    • Track activities and maintain relevant information in our CRM
    • Arrange roadshows, identify and attend relevant conferences and tradeshows to generate leads and build relationships with prospects
    • Generate and report on leads, set up qualified appointments and move opportunities through the M&A pipeline
    • Some travel required (<10%)


    To meet this challenge, you must possess a high level of initiative and energy as required to succeed in a fast-paced evolving environment, as well as several of the following skills:


    • Completion of an undergraduate degree (Business/Economics/Finance an asset);
    • Demonstrable experience in Business Development with an aptitude for sales, lead generation and mining of new business opportunities;
    • 2+ years of direct experience in a Deal Sourcing or Deal Origination role for a private equity, venture capital, corporate development or investment banking firm or 2+ years of direct experience in a Business Development or Sales Representative role
    • Excellent communication skills including the ability to establish rapport with seasoned industry professionals such as CEO’s and Business Owners
    • Demonstrated self-starter with exceptional organization, prioritization and multi-tasking abilities who thrives on new challenges and takes initiative.
    • Experience in M&A or software is an asset
    • Experience with Salesforce (or other CRM) is an asset
