Position Overview


Harris Computer Systems’ Corporate IT group is seeking an Infrastructure Specialist to join our Datacenter Services group to design, maintain and improve existing and newly acquired infrastructure environments.


The main initiatives involve reviewing new acquisition environments with a goal of identifying and implementing enterprise level best practice solutions and improvements, designing new environments to accommodate new mergers and acquisitions, and assessing/coordinating the tasks associated primarily around the roles and responsibilities of the Datacenter Services team related to new acquisitions as well as existing environments.


Employee will work remotely or in a nearby office (if available), and will be expected to travel on occasion to various Harris office locations could be required. Expect one or two site visits per year.


Primary Functions

  • Responsible for the installation, maintenance, and monitoring of server and storage hardware to support internal users.
  • Take a lead role in new acquisition integrations related to datacenter services responsibilities by attending regular integration meetings and liaising with Integrations and Datacenter teams.
  • Document pertinent details of new acquisition environments and recommend best practice solutions as required.
  • Hands-on implementation, upgrading, trouble-shooting of server and storage hardware infrastructure
  • Lead and/or participate in various projects, and plan, design, implement, support and document best practices.
  • Define, design and implement server solutions using mixed OS platforms.
  • Propose and implement system enhancements (software and hardware updates) that will improve the performance and reliability of the system.
  • Manage the load configuration of a central data communication processor and make recommendations for purchase or upgrade of datacenter environments.
  • Coordinate orders and installation, system planning, upgrading, monitoring, testing and servicing.
  • Approve action requests and specify purchase requirements. Negotiate and place orders with approved vendors.
  • Interact with senior internal and external personnel.


  • Must be experienced and proficient in a broad range of datacenter technologies.
  • Exceptional understanding of the requirements needed to design, manage and maintain complex datacenter environments with a senior level of technical skills within many of the core relevant technical proficiencies
  • Experience in designing, deploying and migrating key systems
  • Experience with IT Service Management Processes (ITSM) such as Change Management
  • Demonstrate an exceptional understanding of architecture, planning & design, implementation, maintenance, and upgrades to datacenter equipment and infrastructures of various technologies
  • Experience performing security analysis / risk assessments
  • Proven ability to liaise with customers with the goal of effectively working with systems, building customer knowledge, review (sometimes taking ownership and/or explain) major outages and trends, and assist in the development of action plans to eliminate future risk
  • On occasion may need to be onsite to provide knowledge and professional consultation to the customer and their vendors
  • Candidate should possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and must operate efficiently and effectively in a very interactive team environment
  • Energetic team player that has proven to be effective in a business environment
  • Candidate must be able to work independently, extended hours and after hours
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering or relevant work experience
  • Thorough understanding of VMware and Hyper-V operations and architecture
  • Experience with Dell servers and storage solutions
  • Ability to work alone as an individual contributor, as a technical lead and as a participant in a team environment
  • 8+ years of experience in planning, deploying and troubleshooting datacenter environments
  • ITIL Foundations V3 (Would be considered a strong asset)
