Position Overview



The User Experience (UX) Engineer is responsible for defining the user experience and performing user experience tasks including user interface (UI) Design, user research and usability testing, at the project-level.

Primary Functions

  • Develop human factors design and functional specifications based on analysis and/or research for software application products, including workflow analysis, process modeling and user interface design.
  • Support sales, product management and development departments by determining customer needs and user interface requirements.
  • Utilize iterative development processes, and collaborate with a team of individuals to define detailed user interface designs.
  • Coordinate and facilitate meetings with cross functional teams to gather and document requirements to explore potential solutions.
  • Use proven human factors methodologies and tools, recommend changes to improve the overall usability of the design or process, and produce products that minimize complexity of use, training and support.
  • Contribute to the visualization and re-imagination of existing applications by creating wireframe mockups, prototypes, and web-based user interface.
  • Plan and execute usability testing with prototypes.
  • Initiate user champion reviews of interface designs.
  • Identify and communicate potential risks and roadblocks on projects.
  • Facilitate project-level user research and usability testing analysis.
  • Create usability testing materials including test plan and script.
  • Conduct user research and usability testing sessions.
  • Analyze user research and usability testing data to produce findings that can be translated into UI design decisions for conceptual models, workflows and wireframe designs.
  • Create high-level and detailed UI designs.
  • Work collaboratively with developers, product management and requirements analysts to build the user experience.
  • Perform tasks as assigned by the immediate manager.



  • A degree in Human Factors, HCI, graphic design, user research, interaction design or equivalent experience, supplemented by a thorough understanding of the best practices of the UX domain.


  • 2+ years of experience working on the UX or UI design aspects of software applications.
  • Basic knowledge of technologies and frameworks including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap, and/or Angular


  • Knowledge of agile philosophies and methodologies, utility and schools domains desirable but not required.

Critical Skills

  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Able to work on multiple project assignments concurrently and interact effectively internally and externally.
