Position Overview


Harris Utilities Group is growing the SmartWorks team and is looking for their next Technical Consultant. The Technical Consultant will provide complex technical installation and implementation support services for clients which include database administration interface consulting, report development, and data conversion. Documents services/solutions provided for project manager and client.

Primary Functions

  • 40% Configure and test software interfaces, databases and data conversions as required after software installation.  Develop reports in system per client needs.
  • 30% Provide complex technical installation and implementation support services for client.  Interacts directly with client and determines appropriate type of service or support based on client needs.  Identifies appropriate solutions based on varied data points and provide agreed upon resolution for client.
  • 20% Develop customized solutions for clients per client contract and provide further consultative services on technology utilization.
  • 10% Document software installation services and technical issues and provide to client, project manager, and/or in customer database in accordance with case management policy.


  • 3 years or more working experience in a Consultant role
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Bachelor’s or College degree in Computer Science or Engineering required
  • Experience with advanced database concepts (Oracle preferred)
  • Experience with Java technology, API and XML specifications and Systems Integrations
  • Comfortable working with different operating platforms - Unix, Linux, Windows
  • Working knowledge and understanding of modern software implementation methodologies
  • Interest or experience in the Utilities industry, especially Smart Grid, Metering, AMI, MDM
  • Passion for the customer and for work excellence with a focus on producing strong results
  • Highly developed organizational skills and time management ability
  • Strong analytical troubleshooting skills a must. Ability to solve complex problems
  • Ability to learn quickly in a high paced, challenging environment
  • Ability to write technical design, instructions and procedures to be used by customers
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team on projects
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Willingness to learn, teach and share information with peers, management and users
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
